Diners are often perceived as places where anyone can get an all-American meal. With legendary comfort food, Penrose Diner, 2016 Penrose Ave., has captured that tradition, which is why South Philadelphians voted it best diner for the second consecutive year.
Since taking over the business more than a decade ago, the Dovas family, along with its staff of about a 100, have been combining friendliness with first-rate food.
“I think it’s our wait staff — they get friendly with the customers,”
Manager Bill Dovas said of their reason for success.
“It’s a friendly atmosphere, where everyone likes to come down and have a bite to eat.”
The manager appreciates the loyal customers who have made Penrose reach the top spot again and vows to work doubly hard to remain there.
Melrose Diner and Oregon Diner brought in a tasty second and third, respectively.
